Do your kids fight/argue with each other?

Sibling Rivalry

Sibling rivalry can get the best of us. Sibling rivalry certainly is an annoyance for parents and certainly strains the relationships between our kids. Although, as with a lot of things that are perceived to be a negative thing, sibling rivalry can have some benefits.

When the “rivalry” pressures your children to do better in certain areas of life, when it creates fun competition, and when it fosters healthy negotiation, problem-solving, and coping skills, sibling rivalry can actually be seen as a good thing.

However, pretty much all parents know the downsides of sibling rivalry and how frustrating it is for parents and for the kids, too.

See my article over at Psych Central for some information about why kids fight with their siblings. I’ll also be writing a post soon about what parents can do about their kids’ sibling rivalry.
